NATIONWIDE : Herpes Virus Tied to AIDS-Type Disease

Two research groups have gathered the best evidence yet that Kaposi’s sarcoma, a cancer common among AIDS patients, is caused by a sexually transmitted herpes virus distinct from HIV. Such a connection would mean there is hope that the virus can be blocked by a vaccine, even while AIDS remains incurable. Kaposi’s sarcoma is a disease common in homosexual men with AIDS, but rare in other populations.
