Leaving Welfare

* In response to “For Many on Welfare, Obstacles to Jobs Abound,” Aug. 4:

There may be many hopeless, lazy and uneducated people out there, but I’m not one of them. Two years ago I filed for welfare after losing my job, filing bankruptcy and losing my $250,000 worth of income property. In six to eight more semesters I will receive my BS degree in business administration with a concentration in computer information systems and an MBA in general management. I attend Cal State Dominguez Hills full-time, have four children (ages 1, 2, 3 and 7) and am a single parent. Success will be mine again because I choose for it to be.
