Trustee Takes Over Teamsters’ Chicago Local: The Teamsters received a court order to place a trustee in charge of Chicago Local 714 after officials of the local refused to allow the trusteeship to take place. The Washington-based union is trying to oust local leader William Hogan Jr., a Chicago union legend, for nepotism and other alleged misconduct, Teamsters spokesman Rand Wilson said. Hogan couldn’t be reached for comment. A court-supervised independent review board investigated Hogan and Local 714, which holds significant influence over Chicago’s trade show and film industry, for about eight months. It concluded that Hogan ran Local 714 to benefit family and friends. In an earlier statement, Hogan denied the charges and said the accusations were politically motivated. Hogan is running for secretary-treasurer of the Teamsters on a slate with James P. Hoffa Jr., who is in a bitter contest for the union’s presidency with incumbent Ron Carey.
