Short Wait Seen for Low-Income Housing

Share

In an effort to match low-income Los Angeles families with inexpensive housing, the city’s Housing Authority has announced that its waiting list for two-bedroom apartments is “unusually short.”

George McQuade, spokesman for the Housing Authority of the city of Los Angeles, said Monday that the city owns low-income apartment buildings throughout the city, including the San Fernando Gardens complex in Pacoima.

Rent is typically $200 per month, but the amount varies depending on a family’s income and ability to pay, McQuade said. The ages, gender and relationships among applicants are also used to determine eligibility, he added.

The annual income of a family of four must not exceed $41,050 to qualify. For three-person families, the amount is $36,950; for two-person families, the amount is $32,850.
