Slayer of Reporter Freed After 20 Years
A man who spent 20 years in prison for planting a car bomb that killed an investigative reporter was released and disappeared with the help of the federal government. John Harvey Adamson, 52, was freed, given a new identity and moved to an undisclosed location outside Arizona as a member of the federal witness protection program. Adamson, who has been in the program since 1990, was sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 1976 slaying of reporter Don Bolles. Adamson’s sentence later was reduced after he testified against two men who are now serving time for charges stemming from Bolles’ slaying.
