Religious Influences

Share

The Aug. 10 Religion pages were more like a political section:

Some Christians are quoted saying “that the U.S. is a Christian nation,” and that they endorse “Christian nationalism.” The Muslims are concerned with an “overwhelming bias toward Israel,” and support the “Muslim claims to Jerusalem.”

Religionists seem to have great difficulty accepting the fact that in this country we have a separation between church and state. The religious preferences of other countries should carry no weight whatever when it comes to secular matters between governments.

In addition, churches in this country operate tax-free. Because of this tax-free gift from the American people, all religions are financially and morally restricted to U.S. religious projects only.

Our government is the protector of all faiths, but the government itself must remain completely secular and uninfluenced by various religions in its dealings with the rest of the world.
