Settlement Doesn’t Mean Agreement

Share

In its report (“Internet Copyright Case Settled,” Briefly, Aug. 23) of the settlement of a lawsuit between myself and the Church of Scientology, the Los Angeles Times incorrectly stated that “Klemesrud agreed to pay the $50,000. . . .” In fact, I did not agree to this. I was forced by the threat of possibly losing my insurance coverage to go along with my insurance company’s wish to pay this token amount and end the case. In no way did I agree, nor does my signature appear on any document that I agreed to such; nor have I or will I pay $50,000 to the Church of Scientology. (If I were to, I’d be sure to take a $50,000 tax deduction for it.)
