* A comment regarding “Couple Find Love Amid the Pain of Lung Cancer,” Aug. 19: I have been following this story since the beginning; I find it very difficult to believe that Claire Chasles’ new husband, Joe, and her daughter, Christine, who is eight months pregnant, both still smoke as they witness Claire’s horrible life-and-death battle with cancer.

Haven’t they learned by Claire’s example what this dangerous addiction can do to a person and the family? It is wonderful that Claire and Joe will share a loving marriage for the time she has left, but it’s sad that Christine is knowingly putting her unborn child’s life in jeopardy.

No matter how difficult, both Joe and Christine should honor Claire and her future grandchild enough to quit so that her last days will not be spent fearing that the same fate awaits them as well. The cycle of addiction must be broken. God bless this family.
