FINDING MOON by Tony Hillerman (Harper: $6.99, 354 pp.). Hillerman abandons the Navajo canyon country of his popular mysteries for Southeast Asia in this entertaining adventure. As the Viet Cong prepare to take Saigon and Pol Pot begins his bloody reign in Cambodia, Malcolm “Moon” Mathias is sent to rescue a niece he didn’t know he had, the daughter of his dead brother and a Vietnamese woman. The quest soon involves him with an expatriate Chinese merchant and a mysterious Eurasian woman. Moon lacks the flashy glamour of traditional adventurers, but the diligent veteran displays the kind of bruised charm that has made Hillerman’s Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn so popular with readers.
