Volunteer MDs
Pending federal legislation will critically curtail access to needed health care for the uninsured poor.
A potential resource to help ease this problem would be to provide care by retired physicians without compensation at charitable clinics.
However, retired physicians no longer have professional liability insurance, which would be a prohibitive cost for physicians who have no practice income.
Some other states have adopted legislation establishing liability immunity for retired physicians who volunteer to provide free services for poor persons at charitable clinics. Why not California?
