CardioVascular Dynamics Catheter Approved

CardioVascular Dynamics Inc. said Wednesday it has received Food and Drug Administration approval to market new models of its coronary balloon angioplasty catheters for use in clearing blockages from arteries.

In a news release, the company said the new models clear clogged arteries by using both low and high balloon inflation pressures within a single catheter. During the procedure, a surgical balloon is used to unblock arteries by pushing the blockage toward arterial walls.

The company said clinical trials indicate the new models cause “significantly less arterial damage than conventional balloon technology.”
