* Your provocative cartoon depicting a gleeful Gov. Pete Wilson mauling women and minorities (Commentary, Sept. 2) shows just how out of touch you are. Support for ending government-sponsored race-based preferences can be found across all racial and ethnic lines.

Put quite simply, any government that has the power to choose your group as being preferred today, has the power to choose your group as non-preferred tomorrow. Not only is Wilson’s support for the ending of government-sanctioned preferences and quotas correct, it also reflects that majority opinion in this state.
