Newsweekly Shuffles Its Top Staff: James Fallows, a press critic who is taking over as editor of U.S. News & World Report, started putting his own stamp on the magazine by replacing two top editors and appointing a managing editor. Harrison “Lee” Rainie, one of 15 assistant managing editors, was elevated to managing editor, a new position. Executive Editor Peter W. Bernstein and Deputy Editor Christopher Ma will leave U.S. News “to work on various other publications” that are owned by Chairman and Editor in Chief Mortimer B. Zuckerman, the magazine said. In addition, political commentator Steve Roberts’ future with the magazine is being discussed, a spokesman said. Zuckerman, a real estate entrepreneur, also owns the Atlantic Monthly, the New York Daily News and Fast Company, a business magazine.
