Church to Observe Annual Prayer Day

Share

Members of the Unity Church in Ventura will be participating in the 1996 World Day of Prayer today, a 12-hour marathon of silent reflections, prayers and united consciousness.

“It’s designed to raise the spiritual consciousness of mankind throughout the world,” said Tracy Johns, who is coordinating publicity for the event in Ventura.

“When everyone unites in prayer together, it raises the whole consciousness,” she said.

Thousands of churches across dozens of countries will be participating, Johns said. It is the third of what has blossomed into an annual event, she added.

Music will be provided throughout the day by harpist Joel Andrews. Worshipers are expected to provide their own food.

Services and other activities will be held at the Unity Church between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The church is at 2421 Portola Road. For more information, call 658-1059.
