Refugees Said to Threaten Ecosystem

Zaire says Rwandan refugees are destroying its eastern forest, putting the delicate ecological balance under strain and threatening the survival of rare species of plants and animals. Environment Minister Raymond Tshibanda spotlighted the twin problems of poaching animals and felling trees for firewood or cooking. He accused the outside world of ignoring the problems and urged all concerned to work together to ensure the early return of the refugees to their home country.
