From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Indianapolis’ police chief, Donald Christ, resigned and 16 officers implicated in a drunken brawl were reassigned to desk jobs in the wake of community leaders’ outrage and protest. The reassigned officers were implicated in the Aug. 27 ruckus, in which off-duty members of an elite police unit emerged from a downtown bar, made lewd remarks to women, then beat up and arrested two men who confronted them. Christ had attended an Indianapolis Indians minor-league baseball game with the group but left before the officers went to the bar.
