Operator of Airports to Tighten Security
The operator of the three major metropolitan New York City airports announced plans to tighten security by a number of measures, including raising the number of bomb-sniffing dogs, installing high-tech bomb-detecting equipment and instituting a “three-strikes-and-you’re-out” program for frequent violators of airport security procedures. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs John F. Kennedy International and La Guardia airports in New York and Newark International Airport in New Jersey, said the new measures would be funded from capital and operating budgets. It declined to say how much they would cost.
