* Re “Foe of Gay Marriages Says His Son is Homosexual,” Sept. 11:

I had thought that the last two decades had left me pretty jaded about the depths to which politicians will sink, but the story about Assemblyman Pete Knight (R-Palmdale) is appalling even by these standards.

This man is entirely willing to sell off his own (gay) son’s basic humanity for the political expediency of jumping on the anti-gay-marriage bandwagon. His own (gay) brother, like millions of other Americans, died last year of AIDS, and Knight’s only comment is “we never talked about it.”

What a sterling exemplar of “family values”! And how sad it is that love, loyalty and fundamental decency are apparently not among them.
