Isetan Says Accord With Saks for Barneys Takeover Expired: Saks Holdings Inc. and Isetan, Barneys’ Japanese partner, said in July they were studying a plan to take control of Barneys, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January. The companies will continue to informally explore “the feasibility of a jointly sponsored, jointly proposed or mutually supported plan of reorganization,” Isetan said in court papers filed this week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. The Tokyo-based retailer is in a dispute with Barneys over rent payments for the stores it financed in New York City, Chicago and Beverly Hills. A hearing in the case is scheduled morepresentatives declined to elaborate on the court filing. Executives at Saks and Barneys declined comment.
