Fishy Yom Kippur Recipe

I don’t know what Abby Mandel’s qualifications are regarding cooking in general, but she sure knows nothing about cooking kosher food. And to tie her ignorance in with the holiness of Yom Kippur (“Celebrating Hand-Me-Down Traditions”; Sept. 19) is particularly appalling if not downright insulting. Clam juice!! For shame. Jews no more eat clams than pork or any other unclean foods. Please, if you want to help us celebrate our heritage, please check the credentials of your contributors first.

Though Abby Mandel’s recipe for Pickled Fish did not include clam juice, she did suggest using clam juice as an alternative to using fish heads. She meant no disrespect and intended the suggestion for Jews who don’t keep kosher.
