Microsoft Expects Lower Margins Next Year: Microsoft Corp. said that it gave Chairman Bill Gates a big raise this year amid booming sales of Windows 95. But the Redmond, Wash.-based software company warned that slower revenue growth may lie ahead. Gates, the world’s richest man, earned $562,588 in salary and bonus in 1996, up 26% from 1995, according to the preliminary shareholder proxy statement filed with the SEC. Microsoft also said that operating margins may drop in fiscal 1997 because of higher expenses and slower growth in sales of Windows 95.
