MOVING TO A SMALL TOWN: A Guidebook for Moving From Urban to Rural America by Wanda Urbanska & Frank Levering (Fireside/Simon & Schuster: $12, 327 pp., paperback original). The shift in population from urban centers to small towns has been a key demographic trend in America during the ‘90s. Urbanska and Levering offer an extremely thorough guide to moving: how to choose a town, job searching, financial considerations, packing, moving companies, etc. Although the authors note the limited privacy and cultural opportunities small towns may afford, they paint a rather idealized picture of exurban life.
