A Time to Sell for Busy Actor
CHARLES DUTTON, who co-stars with Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey in John Grisham’s “A Time to Kill” and stars in the upcoming Spike Lee film “Get on the Bus,” has listed his Studio City home at $1.45 million.
Dutton plays Sheriff Ozzie Walls in “A Time to Kill” and has the lead in “Get on the Bus,” about 20 men who go to the Million Man March in Washington, D.C. The film is due out on Oct. 16, the one-year anniversary of the march.
Dutton decided to sell his home because he wants to be more bicoastal, and he and actress Debbi Morgan have gotten a divorce since buying the house in 1993, sources say.
Morgan, who was in the daytime dramas “All My Children” and “Loving,” appears now in “The City,” a “Loving” spinoff that started airing in November 1995.
Built in 1938, the gated Country French-style house has five bedrooms in nearly 6,000 square feet. It also has two family rooms, a library, pool house, pool and motor court.
Dutton, 45, developed a passion for the theater while imprisoned seven years for stabbing a man in a street fight.He completed high school and two years of college behind bars and then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Baltimore, Md., and his master’s degree at Yale.
Since then, he has won a Tony nomination for his Broadway role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and appeared in such films as “Crocodile Dundee II” (1988), “Alien 3” (1992) and “Cry, the Beloved Country” (1995).
On TV, Dutton starred in the Fox sitcom “Roc” (1991-94) and reprised his stage role in a 1995 adaptation of “The Piano Lesson.” In August, he signed to produce and star in an NBC drama series for the 1997-98 season.

Emmy Award-winning TV personality MEREDITH MacRAE, who has recorded 10 best-selling audio books, has sold her Encino home of 20 years to actor PAUL BEN-VICTOR, who co-stars with Jean-Claude Van Damme in the just-released film “Maximum Risk.”
Ben-Victor also appears as the recurring “NYPD Blue” character Steve Richards and has finished working with Eddie Murphy on the upcoming comedy film “Metro.”
MacRae, whose video “The 15-Minute Acupressure Face-Lift” was recently released, also can be seen regularly on Nick at Nite’s TV Land cable channel in re-runs of the ‘60s sitcom “Petticoat Junction.”
MacRae made her acting debut at age 7 with her father, the late actor-singer Gordon MacRae, and Doris Day in “By the Light of the Silvery Moon” (1953) and won her Emmy in 1986 while co-hosting the KHJ-TV Channel 9 show “Mid-Morning L.A.” She recently produced and hosted 30 segments of “Hard Copy” and “A Current Affair.”
MacRae decided to sell her Encino home after her 1995 marriage to Philip M. Neal, president of Pasadena-based Avery-Dennison, makers of self-adhesive tapes, labels and other office products. Neal already had a house in Manhattan Beach, where they have lived since their marriage. The couple also has homes in La Jolla and Rancho Mirage.
The Encino house, a hacienda with four bedrooms plus maid’s quarters and a guest room in a bit more than 4,000 square feet, was built in 1947 and was remodeled and expanded by MacRae in 1977. It had been leased for the last year. MacRae sold it for $725,000, sources say.

The Brentwood estate of the late comic JOHN CANDY is on the market at $5.9 million.
Candy, who starred in such films as “Uncle Buck” and “Planes, Trains & Automobiles,” died at 43 in 1994.
His widow, Rosemary, and two children plan to stay in Brentwood but on a smaller property, sources say.
Their current home is on 2.5 acres and includes a 6,000-square-foot main house, 1,800-square-foot guest house, 2,500-square-foot gym with steam room and spa and a cabana with a kitchen and dressing rooms.
Built in the early 1940s, the main part of the residence underwent a major remodeling a few years ago. About four years ago, the gym and cabana were built along with the tennis court. The home also has a pool and pond.
The estate is listed with Lisa Duffy-Sinclair at the Prudential-Jon Douglas Co., Brentwood.

GORDON WEBB, co-producer of the upcoming Billy Crystal and Robin Williams comedy, “Father’s Day,” and the Michael Jordan film “Space Jam,” has listed his three-acre estate in Bradbury Estates at $1.6 million.
Webb bought a parcel about the same size in the same community, which is guard-gated, and he has been building a larger, contemporary-style home there.
His ranch-style home was built in the ‘50s and has three bedrooms, maid’s quarters and a guest house in 5,000 square feet. The site, zoned for five horses per acre, also has a six-stall barn, riding area, 24 paddocks and pastures.
