GM Canada Braces for Strike; U.S. Talks Affected: Workers at General Motors of Canada Ltd. expected to begin their walkout today. The Canadian Auto Workers and General Motors Canada both said they are far apart on substantive issues, including the company’s insistence on its right to contract out work to non-union employees, a practice known as outsourcing. The expected strike is already affecting negotiations in the U.S. between General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers, sources said. The contract talks, which have made progress on some lesser topics, probably won’t be able to resolve issues such as outsourcing while there’s a strike in Canada. GM and UAW executives declined to comment.
