Scott Rejuvenated by the Possibilities

He is 35, coming off a season in which he shot 40.1% for the Vancouver Grizzlies, and still in a fight for minutes, just like when he left as a free agent in the summer of 1993.

But he’s also a Laker again, so life is good.

“I think I’m enjoying it right now almost as much as when we were winning in the ‘80s because of the fact that for me it’s a re-start,” Byron Scott said. “It’s a rejuvenation for me. Getting a chance, No. 1, to be back in my home city, No. 2, to play with the organization where I started, No. 3, to have another chance to win a championship. All those things are big factors for me.”

Thursday, when the exhibition schedule opens against the Denver Nuggets at the University of Hawaii, Scott will wear the Laker No. 4 again.

Individual game tickets went on sale Saturday. By Saturday night, eight were already sold out: Nov. 1 against the Phoenix Suns because it’s opening night, Feb. 5 versus the Chicago Bulls because it’s the Chicago Bulls, both Forum meetings with the Houston Rockets (Nov. 24 and March 7) and Seattle SuperSonics (Dec. 3 and Feb. 16), the New York Knicks on Feb. 23, and Dec. 6 against the Orlando Magic in the first meeting between Shaquille O’Neal and his former team. The Lakers also report that only 1,000-2,000 tickets remain for the other 33 regular-season games. . . . Ceremonies to retire Gail Goodrich’s jersey No. 25 will be Nov. 20, when the Lakers play the Utah Jazz at the Forum.
