Making Cents: Taxpayers Complain, but Many Take It EZ

Despite many complaints about how politicians have designed the tax code, about 70% of individual taxpayers claimed only the standard deduction last year. A third of all taxpayers used either the one-page Form 1040EZ or the two-page Form 1040A. (Nonetheless, more than half pay someone to fill out forms.) Regardless of anti-IRS rhetoric, U.S. taxpayers have one of the higher rates of compliance in the world.
