Board members for technology companies get paid more but work harder than their counterparts in other industries, according to a recent survey by Korn/Ferry International, an executive search firm.

Directors for technology companies received an average of $35,251 for their board duties in 1995, ahead of the $33,314 average for all companies. Technology board members typically receive an average annual fee of $24,897 plus $1,314 per board meeting.

But technology directors put in an average 172 hours per year on board matters, compared to 163 hours for all outside directors. (In case you’re wondering, that’s $205 per hour for technology directors, compared to $204 per hour for all directors.)
