Compaq Exec to Join Internet Firm: A top executive at Houston-based Compaq Computer Corp. said he is leaving the world’s biggest personal computer maker and joining an Internet start-up, giving credibility to the start-up and setting in motion a realignment of Compaq’s sales managers. The executive, Ross Cooley, is leaving a position where he was in charge of Compaq’s $7-billion North American computer business for a job at a 4-month-old company with the high-tech name of pcOrder.com. At the Austin, Texas-based company, Cooley, 55, will fill the positions of chairman and chief executive.
