In fiscal 1996 the company took action to focus the Xircom brand on its core PC card business. The steps taken included divesting its Netwave wireless LAN product line and creating Netaccess Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary, to pursue the remote access server market.

Founded in 1988, Xircom manufactures communications products for connecting mobile and remote portable computer users to corporate networks, the Internet and other online services.
