Tests on 1,400 Boeing 737 jetliners show no failure in rudder power control units, the manufacturer said, after it had called for the tests because a rudder control valve jammed in a laboratory experiment. Seattle-based Boeing began testing its 2,700 jets after the Federal Aviation Administration ordered the emergency tests. The 737’s rudder system has been under scrutiny because of the unsolved crashes of a United Airlines 737 near Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1991, and a USAir 737 near Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1994.
