Homeowners Protest Apartment Plan

Share

Residents of upscale new homes near Alta Vista Golf Course said this week that they will pack City Council chambers Tuesday to ensure that apartments are not built in their neighborhood.

About 160 residents have filed a petition with the city objecting to a plan to build apartments at Alta Vista Street and Rose Drive.

Because of residents’ objections, the property owner is now considering a condominium project instead.

The City Council on Tuesday will consider approving construction of 226 condos on the property, which is currently undeveloped.

The property owner, Kraemer II LLC of Placentia, is also proposing development of 230 single-family homes adjacent to the condo project.

Steve Chavez, who lives near the area proposed for the project, said residents are concerned that apartments would reduce property values, increase traffic on Alta Vista and cause overcrowding at local schools.

“It’s not that we’re against growth,” Chavez said.

“We just want to make sure the community grows in the right direction. We feel with pride of ownership, you get the kind of people who you want to be your neighbors.”

The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave.
