Drop-Off Offered for Household Wastes

Share

Residents and businesses in the Ojai Valley and surrounding communities will be able to get rid of their household hazardous waste during a drop-off Friday and Saturday.

The event is sponsored by the Ventura County Solid Waste Management Department and the city of Ojai.

Businesses will be able to drop off small quantities of household hazardous waste for a fraction of the normal cost of such disposals Friday. They will be allowed to bring up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste to one of the collection sites. For larger amounts, businesses should contact organizers and request a variance.

Residents will be allowed to dispose of materials such as paints, pesticides, household cleaners, solvents, batteries, antifreeze and motor oil at a collection site Saturday. No business waste, explosives, radioactive materials, biomedical waste, trash or tires will be accepted. The same 15-gallon or 125-pound limits per trip apply for household waste.

Residents and businesses need to schedule an appointment so that drop-offs can be processed quickly. The exact location will be specified at the time of the appointment and will be in the Meiners Oaks area.

The event, which is funded in part by a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Department Board, is open to residents and businesses from surrounding communities in the Santa Clara Valley and the Oxnard Plain.

To participate, and for information on rates, businesses should call Pete Kaiser at 654-3849. Residents should call 654-2152 to make an appointment.

For general information or questions on acceptable materials, call Richard Sweet at 654-3976.
