A professional rodeo roper lassoed a man around the neck and dragged him behind a pickup truck in a dispute over a pool game, police said.

Officers said Jared Stark’s head would have been torn off if he had not managed to hold onto the rope. He was hospitalized with friction burns on his legs, buttocks, arm and neck.

Brian Tanner Adams, 21, was arrested Thursday and jailed on $25,000 bail on charges of attempted murder.
