Library to Close for $3.9-Million Expansion
The Panorama City branch of the Los Angeles Public Library will close Wednesday for a $3.9-million expansion project.
A bookmobile will be set up at the Panorama Mall on Jan. 27 while the 18-month project continues.
The library, built in 1959, is doubling its capacity, said Robert Reagan, public information director for the Los Angeles Public Library.
The new building will have 12,500 square feet, compared with 6,101 in the current building, Reagan said.
Funding for the project came from the $53.4 million raised by Proposition 1, a 1989 bond measure, Reagan said.
While the branch is closed, materials can be returned to any branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.
When the bookmobile opens in January, its hours will be noon to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The Panorama Mall is at 8401 Van Nuys Blvd.
