Defense Minister to Lead Visit to U.S.

In a sign of improving relations between Washington and Beijing, the Pentagon announced that Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian will begin a two-week visit to the U.S. on Dec. 5. The general will hold talks with Defense Secretary William J. Perry and travel to several U.S. military bases. Chi will be accompanied by a 20-member delegation, including senior members of the Chinese ministries of defense and foreign affairs, the Pentagon said. The visit will conclude with talks in Hawaii.
