Paving the Way for Development?
* Re: “Setting Their Sites,” Business section Dec. 5. The Times reports that large housing tracts in San Clemente are now more attractive to developers, in part because of the opening of the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor.
It seems that the toll road was built not to ease existing traffic, but for the benefit of new developments, just as opponents of the road said all along. Developer Doug Neff calls South County an “undervalued phenomenon.” No, Mr. Neff. Some of us value this land so highly that we don’t want to see it covered with ugly beige houses and “golf course communities.”
