1994 Chateau Montelena “Calistoga Cuvee” ($18)

Chateau Montelena Cabernets are the stuff of legend. But the winery’s powerhouse Cab has a younger brother called Cuvee Calistoga. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, it is a lush, ruby red wine, its edges rounded out with a discreet proportion of Merlot. Cabernet Franc adds notes of pepper and spice. This is the wine to drink, with pleasure, while the Big Bopper snoozes in your cellar.
