Shirley J. Elmore, a 59-year resident of Ventura, died Monday after years of suffering from a heart condition. She was 75.

Elmore, who was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa, came to Ventura with her husband, Reese Elmore. He died 24 years ago.

An avid baker, Elmore enjoyed baking German chocolate cakes and meeting new people. She also had a knack for remembering people’s birthdays, said Sharon Moore, Elmore’s conservator.

“For the last several years, she had lost her sight and hearing, but her heart was just full of love,” Moore said. “Anybody she met she would remember their birthday. She had a love for life and people. She had a heart of gold.”

Elmore is survived by her daughter, Phyllis of Ventura; her son, Kenneth Elmore of Riverside, and her brother, Don Shoenberg of Ventura.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Santa Paula Cemetery.
