“As we build the budget for next year, we’ll get direction from council on priorities,” City Manager James D. Ruth said.

The council will also review the $588-million budget, which is in line with projections for the current fiscal year, Ruth said.

Ruth said hotel bed tax and sales tax collections are up, indicating that the economy is turning around. For the first time in five years, Ruth said, “we’ll end the year without having to use one-time monies or reserves.”

Ruth said no major cutbacks in city services are anticipated for the next fiscal year, but “it’s still going to be a tight budget.”
