Lisa Olson’s Ordeal Hasn’t Been Forgotten

Share

I want to thank Mike Downey for reminding his readers of what happened to Lisa Olson in 1990 [Jan. 26]. I didn’t need to be reminded. I remember it well. I was outraged then and continue to be outraged that a woman trying to earn her living would be subjected to the ridicule and torment she went through. She is not the one who did anything wrong, yet she had to leave the country to be able to do her work in peace.

The worst part of the story is that attitudes toward women have not changed much since 1990. You can find newspaper stories every day of women being harassed for trying to do their jobs or of being blamed for becoming the targets of abuse.
