Disney Not Selling Fairchild Unit
Walt Disney Co. said it decided against selling its Fairchild Publications unit and Los Angeles magazine despite strong interest from buyers. Fairchild’s strength in consumer magazines fits with other Disney publications and it could be used “as a strong platform to launch new magazines,” spokesman John Dreyer said. He said Disney hasn’t decided whether to sell or keep most of the newspapers and magazines it acquired in 1995 with Capital Cities/ABC Inc. Those publications include the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Kansas City Star. Disney, based in Burbank, said last month that it may sell or spin off most of its newspapers and magazines, which include New York-based Fairchild, parent of Women’s Wear Daily and W.
