Weak Storm System to Bring More Rain

It will be nothing like the rains Valley residents had to endure in recent weeks, but some showers are expected late today and on Tuesday, forecasters said.

“We’ve got a weak trough moving in that looks like it’s going to hit the Central California coast,” said Bruce Rockwell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. “But we’re going to get the tail end of it down here.”

The Los Angeles area has received 12.5 inches of rain this season, which began July 1. That’s only 2 inches shy of the normal amount for an entire year. The normal rainfall level by this date is 8.75 inches.

The showers--expected to be intermittent--will probably add only a half-inch, Rockwell said. The threat of rain should be gone by Wednesday, he added.

High temperatures should dip from the 60s today into the 50s on Tuesday, but return to the 60s by Wednesday. The high temperatures will be 62 in Burbank and 63 in Woodland Hills, according to forecasters. The low temperatures should be 44 in Burbank and 42 in Woodland Hills.

Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be breezy in the passes and canyons because of the shower system. “It usually happens after a weak storm comes through,” Rockwell said.
