Alleged Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested
A Santa Ana man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 43-year-old bicyclist last month, police said Wednesday.
Motorist Andres Eloy Cruz, 31, allegedly struck Orlando Arellano of Santa Ana as the cyclist was riding on 1st Street near the Santa Ana River about 8 p.m. on Jan. 12.
Cruz, who is already serving five years’ probation stemming from a 1992 conviction for driving under the influence, fled the scene of the crash, police said. Cruz was linked to the fatality by partial license plate information provided by a witness, police said.
Cruz was arrested Friday on felony hit-and-run charges, police said.
