Jurors

Laura Kriho’s predicament (“Holdout Juror Accused of Criminal Contempt,” Feb. 4) highlights the primitive nature of our judicial system. The lawyers and judges make hundreds of thousands of dollars as legal experts; however it is the most ignorant people--indeed, those chosen precisely for their ignorance--who are taken off the street to make the most crucial decision of the trial. Our society has the brainpower to put people on the moon--and to communicate by Internet. Why are we saddled with a legal system rooted in the 14th century?
