Businessman Glenn Baldwin is the recipient of the City Council’s 12th annual Golden Achievement Award.
Baldwin owns Excalibur Extrusions Inc., a manufacturer of plastic pipe for irrigation and other uses. Joyce R. Rosenthal, the city’s development services director, said Baldwin was recognized for advancing the Redevelopment Agency’s goals to improve neighborhoods.
Baldwin’s company, which employs 80 people, is on Crowther Avenue in a redevelopment project area near the historic Placita Santa Fe downtown.
Baldwin said last year he wanted to expand his parking lot, add landscaping and place a fence around his acre property. At the suggestion of the Redevelopment Agency, he sought a loan from the city so he could put up an ornamental border rather than a chain-link fence.
Before Baldwin made his property improvements, “it was not a pretty sight,” Rosenthal said. “Now the whole neighborhood looks better.”
