Montana Rejects Auto Speed Limits
Montana remains the only state where you can drive as fast as conditions reasonably allow on interstate highways in the daytime.
State senators rejected the limits for cars and small trucks, which were supported by Gov. Marc Racicot, by a 41-8 vote Friday.
After Congress ended the national speed limit in 1995, Montana reverted to its “basic rule” that requires people to drive in a reasonable and prudent manner, taking into account the weather, road conditions and traffic. There is a speed limit at night: 65 mph on interstates, 55 elsewhere.
