Planners to Consider Dykstra’s Carwash

Professional baseball player Lenny Dykstra’s plans to build a carwash and baseball memorabilia showroom will come before the Simi Valley Planning Commission tonight, three months after a judge ruled that the project violated city zoning requirements.

The Philadelphia Phillies outfielder wants to build Lenny Dykstra’s Auto Center near the corner of Los Angeles Avenue and 1st Street. Plans for the project came to a halt after a competing carwash owner won a court order against it. In November, a Ventura County Superior Court judge ordered that Dykstra would have to apply for an amendment to the city’s General Plan to go ahead with the project.

Under proposals to be discussed tonight, the southern third of the 3.36-acre parcel where Dykstra’s project is to be built would be changed from a residential to commercial zone, Simi Valley Senior Planner Rich Braun said.
