First Night Falls Short of Expectations

Share

First Night Fullerton, the annual New Year’s Eve celebration, attracted fewer visitors than in past years and produced lower-than-expected revenue, according to a report released by the city.

City officials reported that the Dec. 31 downtown street party drew 7,000 people--but that only 4,100 of them paid the admission fee. In years past, more than 10,000 party-goers filled the streets.

Weather forecasts for heavy rains were a factor, officials said, but they also might consider changing the location, adding stage performances and taking other measures to boost turnout next time around.

Revenue totaled about $54,000, leaving the city with a $12,000 shortfall in the budget for the next First Night party.
