‘The People vs. Larry Flynt’ Saga, Continued : Two Other Views

I don’t want to start an endless exchange here, but I do want to clear up some unfounded fears in the response to Robin Swicord’s “A Modest Proposal” (“ ‘A Modest Proposal’ Touches a Nerve,” Counterpunch Letters, Feb. 17).

Gary Johnson’s letter assumes the only alternative to pornography is censorship. Though the pornography industry has tried hard to convince us of this falsehood--as well as the idea that opposing pornography is opposing sex--it just isn’t true. In fact, most people are anti-censorship and anti-pornography, a position “The People vs. Larry Flynt” ignores.
