Art Form From Costa Rica Displayed

Share

Examples of Guaymi Mastate painting, a Costa Rican art form using tree bark, are on display through Friday at Golden West College’s Fine Arts Gallery.

The exhibit includes 40 paintings by Ronald DeWitt Mills, a professor of arts in Oregon and a former Golden West student.

The art form comes from Coto Brus, Costa Rica, where bark was made into a fibrous, paperlike material. Paints are prepared from natural materials and used to create images that range from botanic drawings to decorative and abstract compositions.
